Keswick Reds (U11) 3 v Cockermouth Tigers (U11) 3
Monday, 20 October 2014 14:58

Keswick U11’s faced local rivals Cockermouth Tigers, at home, on a grey, windswept Fitz Park.

Keswick started with good intentions but precision passing and clinical finishing was to deny Keswick a win.

Much of the action took place in the middle of the pitch with throw ins’a plenty.

Finn Turnbull, Jules West and Will Bonington worked well together with Will putting in plenty of hard yards competing for the ball, creating opportunities for Jules on the left wing but to no avail. Ollie Boyes created a chance for Jonny Watson but his shot hit the side of the net. Cockermouth responded in kind and after 7 minutes put in their 1st shot on goal, which went over crossbar.

Jonny, Billy Carter Denton and Jules continued to put in some good combinations to keep the pressure on. Not to be out done Sam Wilson worked hard in midfield, winning the ball for Finn Turnbull, who flicked it to Ollie, who slipped it to Jules, whose shot went wide.

10 mins gone it’s all to play for and Keswick goalie, Harrison Hays hasn’t touched the ball

Keswick keep up the attack with Rhys Foster and Johnny working well in midfield but 1st corner goes to Cockermouth and after another scrabble in front of goal, the pressure tells and Keswick give a free kick away. A couple of missed tackles allow Cockermouth a shot, which is saved but the ball cruelly rebounds, allowing Cockermouth to fire it in the back of the net. 1:0 Cockermouth

Cockermouth relentless from the restart, as is the wind. They mount another attack. Ollie, Johnny and Jules rush back to defend but Cockermouth still get the shot in, only to be foiled by fabulous save from Keswick goalie Harrison.

Keswick dig dip and respond with Rhys coming up from defence, taking a great pass from Billy, beats two players, shoots and scores from long range! 1-1 and half time.

Second half starts all Cockermouth, which pays off in the 36th minute when Keswick, under continual pressure, give away an own goal.  Anguished faces peer out of the rain! 2:1 Cockermouth

The rain ups the anti, as do Cockermouth with a long-range attempt at goal followed by a closer one, only kept out by another great save from Harrison. Keswick counter with a great attempt by Johnny that tests the Cockermouth goalie. Rhys, Ollie and Finn then combine well to win a corner but Ollie’s’ shot saved and cleared.

With the weather worsening, Finn and Rhys kept the defence work rate up in the middle of the pitch. Keswick attack, Cockermouth goalie looks frail under pressure. A goal line scramble results in a Keswick corner. Billy drives it into the area and Johnny calmly flicks it passed the goalie with the left foot. Beautiful. 2:2

Keswick win the ball from restart and attack up left wing but lose possession. Both sides exchange possession in midfield until Cockermouth mount an innocuous attack down the right wing, catching Keswick off guard, to grab a soft goal. 3:2 to Cockermouth

7 mins to go. Keswick dig deep. Jules mounts an attack down the wing and wins free kick 10 meters out.  Billy makes his way through the driving rain and with a flash of the orange boots drives the ball into the area for Jules to flick the ball into the back of the net with a deft header. 3:3. A draw. Just.
